    About The Species

What alien species are you applying for?
    The Adherent

Why do you want to play as the alien species?
Adherents seem to be an interesting race to play, from their kind and strange demeanor to their unique design. Protocol itself seems to be a great tool to make interesting RP scenarios as well. Also, the fact that they're so different from a human makes them interesting as well.

What are some example names for the alien species?

    Mobile Cultivator RHO-848
    Ranching Unit 338-LPM
    Suit Refurbishment Platform 762-BTN

Summarize what you know about the species.
Adherents are a crystaline artificial-species built by their creators to fulfill logistical roles, and bound to an extensive set of laws known as Protocol. Following a supernova event known as the Scream, their creators were wiped out entirely, and the Adherents were left with little instructions besides Protocol. The Vigil operates as the main body governing of the Adherent after the Scream. They attempt to maintain whatever scraps of culture they can, which fixates on the Adherent's role as servitors. Within the Vigil, there are 3 factions with differing views, which are as follows:

Loyalists, which are dedicated entirely to preserving the memory of their creators, and wholeheartedly believe that service is the purpose of their existence.

Preservers, which are the most populous faction are focused on exploring and indexing other worlds and places, to leave this information for whoever inherits the place. They are also the most passive, and most likely to be found working with other species.

Separatists, who believe that the survival of the Adherents themselves should be placed above honoring or finding their creators, or finding new masters.

It should be noted that ALL of these factions, and all Adherents follow Protocol.

Physically, Adherents are large, floating machines that can be up to 10 ft tall, and weigh several hundred pounds. They have multiple tentacles protruding from a "head" and, despite their size and weight, float gracefully.

Adherents are very polite, friendly and willing to serve others wherever possible(unless doing so would somehow break Protocol). Additionally, although they are averse to violence against other sentients, they will attempt to keep themselves alive unless doing so would violate protocol.

Please speak more on what Protocol is and how you personally would interpret protocol in your play.

Also go ahead and give me a character concept, include what faction they would be a part of and why.

Protocol is the long, nebulous and complex set of rules followed by Adherents. Due to the long length of Protocol, it's more like an actual set of laws followed by a country, with loopholes and possibly exploitable sections, and not the more clear laws followed by Silicons. It should be noted that for an Adherent, following Protocol is as basic an action as breathing, and even if loopholes and exploits may be found, an Adherent will not willingly break Protocol under any circumstances. Sometimes, Protocols will conflict and Adherents will "lock up" while trying to find the correct way to proceed while still following Protocol. In-game, Protocol acts not as a long set of rules, but instead a way of making RP more interesting and enjoyable, sometimes by making up protocols on the spot, which shouldn't go against the Adherents nature as strange yet ultimately helpful robots.

    Character concept:

Repair/Refit Platform TY-308 is a rather simple unit, identifying themselves as a Preserver, considering their interest in discovering and archiving other things. Some time after contact, they volunteered to work aboard the Torch, considering its mission in exploration and documentation and, to a lesser extent, the(to an Adherent with little concept of the outside world) diversity of its crew. They work dutifully aiding the Torch in engineering tasks, mainly the repair, refit and maintenance of robots, mechs and similar equipment. Occasionally, he has to deal with conflicts between 2 sections of protocol, one dictating that mechanisms that function should not be unnecessarily modified without orders to do so, and another stating that when possible and safe, equipment should be upgraded. Due to “mechanisms” and “equipment” being vaguely defined, he will lock up shortly during refits on occasion. Personality-wise, Repair/Refit is affable, respectful and generally tries to make conversation with others,.
