About You What is your Byond key? Furbnus What is your Discord username? Furbnus the Crimson#8984 How long have you been playing on Baystation 12? Since late 2019, more often in the last month. What are the names of your better-known characters? Hazel Ray Kyra Turner About The Species What alien species are you applying for? Vox Why do you want to play as the alien species? I really like non-shipside roles, and after observing some vox rounds I’ve taken an interest in them. What are some example names for the alien species? Just let your cat walk onto the keyboard until you get some bird noises. Kirikitchita Vikitokiriti Skritiriki Their names will essentially translate into their current position aboard wherever they serve, which will go something like “The Red Eyed Scavenger of the Five Strong Frigate of the Arkship Wayward Warden.” Summarize what you know about the species. Vox are sapient, bipedal species of reptilian/avian bio-engineered servitors that were once part of a mighty empire, now reduced to a shadow of its former strength. There are two varieties of vox, the smaller, more common Primalis created for general labor, and the much more physically imposing Armalis, created for heavy labor and better suited for combat. Armalis generally find themselves in positions of leadership over their smaller kin due to their size, but Primalis Quills (Captains) are not unheard of. The meaty shell of a vox is simply a place to put their Cortical Stack, an ancient piece of technology that stores all of the memories and personality of the vox itself, with even their brains simply existing only to keep the flesh running. Vox reside on large spacecraft called Arkships, a roughly spherical frankenstein construct with the Apex grove in the center, and the Shroud surrounding it. The Shroud is a frankenstein construct built from the corpses of smaller ships, crude metal plates, and the rare piece of the original hull. Thousands of vox will live their entire lives in the Shroud, only to die and be born anew. The core of the Arkships house the Ark grove, and the Ark groves house the Apex. The Apex are massive computers, revered as cosmic messengers by the Vox, and their word is law. The Apex speak only when they require a goal accomplished, or to act as the final authority in what passes as a vox justice system, their construction a mystery and their goals unknowable. Quills are designated by the Apex themselves and are essentially the leaders of their kin, with the rest of their hierarchy being chosen through duels of dominance, with younger vox often being at the bottom of the totem pole. Vox have tattoos on their necks that tell of their history and accomplishments, and will often flash these at others as a prelude to a fight. Regardless, vox view members of their crew to be family, and will go to great lengths to ensure their Cortical Stack’s preservation. None of this care spreads to non-vox however, viewing the other species of the galaxy as nothing more than targets for scavenging raids, or a dangerous thing to be avoided. “Does the meat have the means to stop our raid? If no, what do they have we can take? If yes, how quickly can we jump away to an easier target?” To the vox, no life in the galaxy counts if you don’t have a stack, and exists only to be used by actual people. Vox are capable of speaking ZAC, though they consider it demeaning and will often feign stupidity as long as it serves them, with one or two translators aboard each crew. Most of the time they play stupid and pretend not to understand the loud jibbering of the meat, magically learning to speak their tongue as soon as they aren’t in a position of power. Character Concept. My vox (I’ll need to spam the randomize button for a name) will essentially be the first to talk big shit, but the last to actually follow up on it. A typical scavenger, (insert name here) wants nothing more than to procure the meat’s things for he and his kin’s use so long as it’s an easy job. An aspiring pilot, his favorite things to steal are ships, or at least they would be if he could actually get his hands (Claws? Talons?) on one. Despite everything, if the kin are in danger, he can gather what meagre courage he has for the sake of their rescue.
