    About The Species

What alien species are you applying for?

Why do you want to play as the alien species?
I've really enjoyed RPing with dionae that I've seen around, and I always have fun when I play as a nymph. In addition, the dionae are one of the most alien alien species out there in terms of their mindset and thought process, which I think would make for a fun RP challenge.

What are some example names for the alien species?
Diona names are a description of a formative memory in a gestalt's life, tending to be long and poetic. Examples:
    Soft Shadows From Starlight
    Dissipating Lasers On Flesh

Summarize what you know about the species.
Dionaea are gestalts of individual diona, called 'nymphs'. Each nymph is a plantlike insectoid organism about the size of a cat, and can combine with other dionae to form a gestalt. These can range from tiny blobs of a few nymph, to the more commonly seen humanoid gestalts, to massive gestalts the size of planets. Diona gestalts will act as a singular entity, but still refer to themselves in the plural. Dionae are very passive and extremely curious, and generally think a lot slower than other sapient races. This reflects itself in their way of speaking, which tends to have long......... pauses........
Dionae pick up habits from other sapients around them as part of their natural curiousity and instinctive desire to learn. This is why dionae on human ships appear humanoid - however, their attempts to make a humanoid form can be... extremely disturbing for inexperienced gestalts. As they become more accustomed to humans, they learn more about human behaviour, gradually stopping doing extremely terrifying shit like forgetting to have a face or which way knees are meant to bend.
Dionae don't really understand violence as a concept. They're not inherently pacifistic, but they don't really grasp why someone would commit violence. No healthy diona gestalt has ever been observed forming a violent pattern of behaviour.
Dionae communicate with one another through emission of electromagnetic radiation, known as 'Rootspeak'. There are two forms of Rootspeak, local, which is effectively just speaking normally, and global, which is an extremely long-range form of communication that allows dionae to communicate across solar systems and even between them.

Dionae are very hard to kill, not really registering pain and requiring insane amounts of damage to break a gestalt back down into its component nymphs. They do not need to breathe, eat or sleep. Heat and pressure do not phase them as is to be expected given that their natural habitats are gas giants and the upper atmosphere of stars. However, they require light to survive, and being in total darkness will kill a gestalt quickly.

    Character Concept:
White Fire Within Glass, Engine Technician

White Fire Within Glass, who will be abbreviated to Fire for the rest of this concept because damn it, I don't want to type the entire thing every time, first formed on a Free Trade Union cargo vessel. Somehow, diona pods got into the hydroponics system, and several nymphs were born there. Some of them found their way to the engine room, where they would watch the human engine technicians as they fueled the ship's engines, resulting in white-hot fire behind borosilicate glass.
Eventually, the nymphs formed a gestalt, and continued to observe the vessel, as the human crew were like 'well, shit, this might as well happen'.

Fire continued to work with the engines, picking up some habits of human socialisation from the engineering team aboard. However, the vessel and its dionae parted ways one day, when Fire was conducting repairs on the outside of the ship and the pilot remembered about a sector later "Fuck, where's the plant guy?"

Eventually after a series of space shenanigans, Fire wound up aboard the SEV Torch and promptly offered their services as an engineering contractor. They are trained in the operation of the supermatter, but they prefer to use the RUST as it reminds them of their formation.

I support this. +1 I've played with them multiple times and they do their RP well, I feel they would not do badly.

Heya, answer these questions pls, and sorry for not seeing this earlier.
    1) You are White Fire Within Glass, sitting in the mess. David LaKill and his friend walk up to you and start punching you, laughing about how it's great to have a punching bag that can talk. What do you do?
    2) The punching develops into them trying to drag you into maintenance. What's your response?
  4. 1. Just vibe there until I decide to leave. I can't feel pain, and I don't really understand the concept of violence, so I don't get that they're trying to hurt me, and it doesn't negatively impact me.

    2. If I have nothing else to do, I let them do that - I am sure there is more information to be learned from whatever they want in maintenance. If I'm needed to do engine work, however, I go to do that.
