About You What is your Byond key? Schmuck Lord How long have you been playing on Baystation 12? I've been playing on Baystation reaching about six months give or take half a month. What are the names of your better-known characters? ENIGMA, LOQ-007, Leslie Zimmerman, Hector Reis, Nathan Reis About The Species What alien species are you applying for? Vox Why do you want to play as the alien species? The Vox are a combination of a variety of Sci-Fi themes that I love and hold dear to my heart. They are nomadic space faring raiders with scheming tendencies and no interest in other life besides its own! Also, Enigmatic Space Gods, love that stuff. What are some example names for the alien species? Due to the nature of Vox bodies being designed for roles and simply loading experience into said bodies through Cortical stacks. Vox names translated tend to be a summary of their existence. For example, the name of a Vox translated might be: Low Needle of the Twelve United Strike Shuttle of the Arkship Ubiquitous Horizon Vox themselves though of course don't care about translating their names, why would they? Galactic Common is the language of the meat! Ergo, most Vox names probably sound as such: Jiyaktarikai, Tinirkiyar, Dasikakai Summarize what you know about the species. The Vox a a race of nomadic bio-mechanical reptilian nomadic raiders that to the rest of the galaxy are the most hostile, devious, and outright annoying beings in the galaxy. Their actual breath of experience, sense of self, and other characteristics of their personality are contained in a device similar to neural lace known as as Cortical Stack. These Cortical Stacks are implanted into Vox bodies which are for all intents and purposes, made to fulfill roles within the Arkship and as such, Vox bodies are completely sterile, they do not reproduce along the lines of other species. The maturation rate of their bodies is typically the duration of an Earth month, meaning that despite young Vox having the experience of potentially hundreds of years, their bodies will grow to accommodate their experience relatively quickly. Certain characteristics though are true of all Vox bodies. Your average Vox will stand between 1.5 and 2.5 meters tall, possess a three-sectioned beak a collection of quills on back of their heads, and a long prehensile tail. Their bodies tend to maintain a grey or brownish coloration and their actual upper epidermal layer is scaled with rigid interlocking plates that can be adjusted to provide cooling or even an effective pressure seal in the vacuum. All Vox will also have a series of markings on their throats and necks in order to determine genetic lineage and other historical facts about their life. Such markings can be falsified by even considering such an action is pathetic and low by Vox standards. Their internal makeup is comprised of a light and flexible bones and an efficient nervous system with redundancies to continue working even if it begins to fail. The most notable characteristic however is that they require a nitrogen rich environment to breath and their bodies do not react well to Oxygen. Most of their biology leans towards fast bursts of movement, but they are vulnerable to muscular exhaustion and have a tendency to tire quickly if they exert themselves for too long. Interestingly enough, the Vox's means of gestation and consumption is highly efficient. Not only are they able to derive nutrition from most of everything they only possess one facial orifice. Meaning they communicate, consume, defecate, and breath all from the same hole. Despite their ability to digest anything however, the bulk of their diet comes from fungal growth and vermin that grow within the ecosystem of the Arkship. In terms of their behavior, it is filled with cowardice, avarice and jealously. Vox are generally the most despicable beings in the galaxy purely due to their outlook on the rest of the galaxy. The Vox are members of a stellar empire in the last moments of it's life and in order to survive, they must raid, scheme, and steal from the people around them. It is a rather easy thing to do since Vox don't find other beings in the galaxy important much less relevant, they are simply less than them and nothing more than meat. Theft and deception of this lesser beings is acceptable as they are not people, not Vox, not important say from the technology and resources they produce. There is evidence to suggest that this distaste for other life comes from other beings lacking cortical stacks, and thus lacking the 'immortality' of the Vox race, though that isn't evident enough to say for certain. Vox culture itself though is something of a wash. Between Arkships and even between large groups of Vox there is very little uniformity in how Vox interact in speak with each other. The main authorities of Vox arkships are known as Apex, which are essentially overgrown bio-computers that the Vox believe are linked to their strange and unknowable gods, which they do not like talking about with non-Vox. The Apex of the various Arkships act as defacto leaders and judicators for Vox culture, they seldom communicate but when they do it is because something needs to occur or judgement needs to be rendered, otherwise though, Vox Hierarchy is completely left to it's own devices. Most groups of Vox are led by a Quill by directive from the Apex but aside from that organization is completely left to the Vox themselves. Ritual sparring and comparisons of genetic lineage or breath of experience are often determiners for whom is the utmost authority in a group of Vox. When Vox speak they speak in a tongue commonly refereed to as Vox Pidgin, which relies on a small amount of high pitch vowel sounds in order to communicate, which is often irritating to the ears of non-Vox. Vox have similar feelings about other languages, feeling that they possess too many sounds and are too noisy, ironic compared to their loud and shrill screeching by comparison. Actual Vox technology however is something that is largely beyond the understanding of Human scientists and engineers, relying on things from their old and hemorrhaging empire. Now, such technology is worshiped by the Vox as further signs of the divine. Leaning on the bio-mechanical aspects of their being, many of their weapons are also constructed in similar ways to their bodies. They are grown and have similar muscle mechanics to actual Vox bodies, examples of this are items like the Spike thrower. Additionally, Vox themselves have no qualms with augmenting or enhancing their body through cybernetics, in fact it is a sign of pride within Vox circles. After all, it's just changing a body already constructed for your implantation, it isn't any different then being transferred to a slightly new body. In terms of other technology they possess their Arkships are completely unknown to human scientists in their operation. All Arkships seem to be apart of a bluespace communication network primarily designed to be used by an Arkships Apex, this doesn't stop Vox from piggybacking off of the network in order to allow for some interaction and coordination between other Vox Arkships. Additionally, their method of FTL is completely different than anything experimented on by Humanity or other species. The FTL systems of an Arkship are entirely controlled by the Apex and Vox aren't given any notice or directive when a jump occurs. All that is really known is that it isn't bluespace oriented and other ships under Vox Control will typically just use hijacked FTL methods of their original owners. It's been talked about several times by the Vox Arkship is the pinnacle of what could be called a Vox population. Due to their nomadic lifestyle, the Vox almost entirely are a ship-bound species. Their 'ark' and their fleet is what is their home and territory. With every Arkship possessing tens of thousands of Vox, not including those Vox that are stored in their Cortical stacks awaiting a new body, it is their home for all intents and purposes. An Arkship is made up of a variety of stolen, salvaged, or just ambiguous ships and debris build around a central grove where the Apex is housed. These vessels are massive and made into a spherical form, as the form expands the additional structure beyond the original design of the Arkship is known as a 'shroud' due to it mostly being stolen technology and debris designed to shield the Apex and their grove. These Arkships also follow the naming conventions of Vox, possessing long names similar to the Dionea of their experience and history, as well as commercial codes in place for trading purposes. As far as a military however, and this fleet being organized into an actual navy, it is an impossibility in their current state. Arkships are haphazard in their construction and possess a variety of ship to ship weapons which are almost all shoddy and poorly placed. An Arkship could not stand up to a professional navy. Their true advantage though is their mobility and ability to avoid conflict. With roughly a hundred arkships operating within SCG space, it's hard for the Third Fleet to track them down and be rid of them once and for all. Some Vox will make use of temporary settlements around their Arkship but they will almost always return to their home. Arkship culture is the lifeblood of the Vox and what has allowed them to persist in a galaxy unwanting of them for so long.
